San Jose, CA - ATrip Worth Taking!

A Mac Kid Review

By Shana Battles, Macaroni Kid North Phoenix Publisher July 21, 2014
Why visit San Jose?  The question is Why Not?

The weather is close to perfection.  Averaging 300 days of sunshine per year, it's a rare occasion when you'll need to worry about your plans being interrupted by a rainy day (San Jose Official Visitors Guide 2014).

I had the pleasure of visiting San Jose recently and it was nothing short of spectacular.  I think it may have been our San Jose hosts (#TeamSanJose), but even without them I'm pretty sure I would have had an amazing time.

One of my favorite activities was the wine tasting at J. Lohr Vineyards.  I love wine.  But I can never learn enough about why certain grapes are gown in certain regions. I love a good Cabernet and it was fascinating to learn the best region for growing a great Cabernet. Our wine tating expert certainly knew her stuff and explained it with ease.

We spent the first night taking in the sites at San Pedro Market Square.  This area really is the heart of the City.  With over 20 cafes and restaurants to choose from there is something for everyone. From Vietnamese to Thai and pizza to sliders, the market offers outdoor seating to enjoy live music at night for all to enjoy.

The next night we dined at First to Market and it was amazing.  I had fresh Bay Scallops and a S'mores connoction for dessert wich was fantastic.  First to Market brings regional American comfort foods to the South Bay. They use traditional techniques to elevate each of the dishes that define American cuisine. With a full bar including local wine, craft beer, and house cocktails that highlight fine American spirits, First to Market aims to bring awareness to the foods that make America great, and prepare them in the best ways possible!

But my favorite activity was our outing to the San Jose Stage Company.  Even if you're not a fan of theatre you can't help be overwhelmed and mesmorized by the intimate setting and talent of the fine actors.  We happened to see Bonnie & Clyde and I cannot recommend it enough.  Truly a fun time!
